NOUVELLES

New Music!

Finally! A new music project release is on the very close horizon for Karen! Since her last independent release. ("Soulchestral Groove"),

Karen's new project called, "Sonic Woodwork" is yet another independent effort of which her composing/producing skills are

prominently displayed. This promises to be authentic with only one arrangement, much like her former release and arrangement of "Sheherazade's Groove", re-imagined in Brahms' Symphony in C Minor.

The interesting thing about this project is that Karen is the primary performer of mostly all instrumentations in her arrangements with only a couple of exceptions. Additional live players include upright bassist, Robin Bramlett on a track written called, "Waltz for Kira" and Snarky Puppy's Bobby Sparks on keyboards on,  "Waltz for Kira", "The Urban Sonnett" and fiery organ for "Sibling Rivalry".

Karen describes her music as very accessible to it's listeners and is comprised of many influences to create her signature swagger not only as a performer, but also a composer. Stay tuned for release dates, listening parties and concert dates!

A World Music Performance: Karen Performs with The National Symphony Orchestra of
Havana, Cuba

Havana, May 17 (RHC) The American violinist and composer, Karen Briggs, conquered the scene of the Cubadisco 2022 event during the inaugural concert that marked her debut in Havana accompanied by the pianist Nachito Herrera and his guests.

For the first time, Briggs arrived in the Cuban capital to show her virtuosity at the Cuba Vive recital held the day before, where she performed versions of Cuban, American and Russian authors, including the pieces Scheherazade and "I've Got Rhythm".

"When she plays her violin she speaks for herself and represents the value of women by imposing her talent in a field as difficult as jazz", Herrera said about the artist, whose career is associated with the world-renowned Greek-American composer Yanni, with whom shared 13 years of recordings and international tours.

Also, she gained notoriety after her performance at the Yanni Live at the Acropolis concert, broadcast in 65 countries and seen by more than 500 million people.

The well-known 'Lady in Red' bowed to the instrument, supported by two generations of Cuban violinists such as maestro Lázaro Dagoberto González and the young Christopher Simpson, in a unique demonstration of the professional level of Cuban music.

In this sense, the Habana Jazz band, the National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of director Enrique Pérez Mesa, and the National Choir conducted by Digna Guerra and the Big Band of the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory matched the vocal and interpretive talent.

Herrera arranged a tribute to the traditional trova and to that great Cuban composer who was María Teresa Vera in the voice of her fellow countryman living in Canada, Adonis Puentes, who made the emblematic piece Veinte años and the popular theme A lot of stars, legacy his own. by singer-songwriter Polo Montañez.

"This concert means a lot. We are going to show the world once again that Cuba can make classical, dance and choral music. The range of musical education here is one of the best in the world," the director of the Habana Jazz band told the national press.

The pianist unfolded a high caliber repertoire before the audience at the Sala Avellaneda to emphasize works such as Blue Unicorn, a tribute to the founder of the so-called Nueva Trova Movement, Silvio Rodríguez.

For the closing, the musician reserved two of the most praised pieces -"Gratitude" and "The Force of A Country", together with the Cuban group Buena Fe; giving full meaning to the evening dedicated to the memory of the victims of the accident that occurred at the Saratoga hotel as well as the doctors who faced the Covid-19 pandemic in the Caribbean nation.
